Extension and re-modelling of a Private House, Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire:
An existing house on the outskirts of Poulton-le-Fylde, has been transformed by the addition of smooth white render-faced extensions providing a single storey garden room and a separate additional living space with bedrooms above.
The garden room is a simple white enclosure with maximum glazing allowing a direct link with the landscaped gardens.
The simplicity of both concept and chosen materials ensure harmony with the existing house.
Private house:
A substantial house remodelled and extended for private clients in an attractive rural site in the coastal area of Lancashire.
Imperial Street, Blackpool:
On a tight urban site in the centre of Blackpool the practice designed a group of eight one-bedroom flats for rent. The accommodation provides independant living accommodation for young single mothers, the flats are grouped around a secure courtyard garden which is landscaped to provide a secure and enjoyable social space.
Buckleys Yard, Stalybridge:
Redevelopment of a prime canal-side plot on a 'brown field' site on the edge of Stalybridge town centre provided the opportunity to provide twenty four new apartments with open views across the canal basin and surronding area.
The curved form of the canal basin helped to give shape to the development which is built of stone and render together with large areas of glazing to maximise views.
Rural Housing
Backbarrow, Cumbria:
Part of the Two Castles Housing Assocation programme of low cost rural housing for locals in Cumbria.
The site has very strong historical connections being overlooked by the line of the now enthusiast-run Haverthwaite to Lakeside railway, a remnant of the old Furness Railway, and adjoining the home of John Wilkinson the pioneer iron-maker who joined Abraham Darby at Ironbridge in Shropshire.
The railway embankment forms the rear of the site and being too steep to effectively manage as a garden it was sowed with a wild flower and grass seed mix resulting in a spectacular display of flowers each summer and minimum maintenance.
Lytham Villas:
Working closely with the developer's in-house team we developed a range of large luxury detached properties for a prestigious site overlooking the Ribble estuary in Lytham St Annes.
Drawing on the template of the numerous Victorian villas with their coach houses in the town, each new villa is sited at the end of its own private drive, with smaller 'coach-house' properties to either side framing the view and creating a semi-private area with a sense of place.
Rural Housing -
Haverthwaite, Cumbria:
A rural housing project for the Two Castles Housing Association, part of their county-wide programme of low cost rural housing in Cumbria.
The accommodation comprises six flats, the three at ground floor being for elderly tenants.
Care was taken to retain an existing mature oak tree which is incorporate it into the landscaping design.
Materials were chosen from a very limited palete to be sympathetic to the local vernacular, being local roof slates, natural roughcast render and high performance timber windows.
