Primary Care Resource Centre,
Ulverston, Cumbria:
Part of a £10.5 million fast-track, multi-phased development on two sites, involving new-buildings, demolitions and remodelling of existing accommodation on two fully operational hospital sites.
Two stage tendering, which was necessary to meet the very tight programmes allowed contractor procurement to be carried out concurrent with the design process.
Design work, including replanning of two departments as a result of a change in client requirements, continued throughout the 13 phase project which finished on time and within budget.
Pathology Laboratories:
Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Lancaster
The laboratories occupy a very awkward and restricted, sloping site on the RLI campus.
The building which houses histopathology and microbiology services has an L-shaped plan, the two wings being joined by a vertical circulation hub.
Each wing is then divided into two elements, the larger element being laboratories and the smaller being related offices and other ancilliary spaces.
The provision of good daylight was given a high priority it being essential for the work of the laboratories and in order to provide a high quality environmnent.

Located within a mainly quiet residential area close to the centre of Blackpool the hospice provides care for people within the Fylde area.

The chapel which is used for both spiritual and secular activities is a deliberately simple space with a high ceiling and views into the central garden.

Cuerden Hall, Preston:
Cuerden Hall is a large grade 2* listed property built in the early 18th century and remodelled by Lewis Wyatt in the early 19th century.
After the house had suffered a chequered history of various occupations and uses we were appointed by Sue Ryder to restore the property and reconfigure the accommodation to provide long-term nursing facilities for people with neurological conditions.
Our major challenge, whilst carrying our major repairs and remodelling, was to preserve the historic quality and character of the property whilst providing a caring environment.
Day Case Unit, Burnley General Hospital:
Attached to an existing operating theatre suite, the additional operating theatre and endoscopy facilities at Burnley General Hospital met a pressing need for additional day case facilities.
On a very tight site, subject to changes in level and criss-crossed by a complex network of existing buried services, the accommodation included three operating theatres and two endoscopy rooms together with reception, consultation, changing, treatment and recovery areas.
Careful planning during the designand construction stages was necessary to ensure that the work was carried out without damaging existing services and without interruption to the work of the existing operating theatres.
